Margaret's Poppy Seed Bread

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup milk
  • 3/4 cups poppy seeds
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 cups white flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 - 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon lemon rind or Real lemon
    • If real lemon is used add 1-2 tablespoons of flour

Directions:

  1. Heat but do not boil, milk and poppy seeds
  2. Cream butter and brown sugar
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beat thoroughly after each one.
  4. Sift together white flour, baking powder, salt
  5. Add vanilla and lemon
  6. Bake in greased loaf pan for 40 to 50 minutes at 350 Degrees
